I've been building

So I got a bunch of wood from one of the tear downs that I worked. Then I found a circular saw, a jig saw, and a power sander all for $25. Unbelievable?! Well, I went and built myself a bed... that's where I've been hiding. And a nice break after sitting in front of the computer for so long.... Anyway, it still needs some last minute touches but I need to go to work for that and once that happens... I'll post a photo so all can see.

The rest of the story

Ok. So, the next morning #1,3, and I woke up to my dad coming over to pick us up from #1 house. The teasing starting right away. "DAD, you didn't bring us breakfast?" not hello - not how ya doing but breakfast... Well, he runs back out and gets breakfast...
Oh, wait - let me backtrack. We finally got to #1 house at 11:30pm and she usually goes to bed at 9. Well, #1,3,5 and I stayed up until 1:30 am shooting the shit and giving bday cards to #5. Generally just a good time.
But back to the next morning... So, smiles all the way around... We get to my folks house and immediately #3 & I start cleaning the yard because we know what's coming. It was a bit humid but not bad. At one point, #3 and my dad go and get stuff for pina coladas. We have a few while we are doing yard work. Soon my mom is yelling out the door,
"Girls why don't you come in. I don't care about the yard. I just would like to sit and chat."
"Ok, mom"
And we kept working. Next thing I know #3 is telling me my phone is ringing, it's #1 and she's telling me there's a fire that has to be put out. My mom was calling from the basement and she kept telling #1 that dad was trying to listen to figure out who she was calling because my dad accidentally told her that she should get ready to go to dinner with my aunt/uncle & my mom's cousins and they are going to Arby's. Ooopppssss! Now my mom had already been pissed that we were out working on the yard and not talking and on top of it all we were drinking while we were doing it. But honestly, it was humid enough and we were working hard enough that it was just sweating out of us. Anyway, I tell #1 that I'll take care of it. So I walk in the house and hear them in the basement as if they were standing in front of me.
"Have you absolutely lost your mind? Arby's!!!!! Arby's!!!!!"
"Lil, I'm sorry... I didn't mean Arby's"
The yelling continued as I walked downstairs. They were yelling so loud that they didn't even hear me come down and I had to shout... "What's going on..."
"Your father has completely lost his mind. We're going to Arby's for dinner with Ed, Arlene, Barbara & Tom."
I giggled. I did... And then said... "Mom, I made dinner reservations. I know you're not going to Arby's. Your 75th birthday is too big to be going to Arby's. And there's a lot of stuff that's gonna happen over this weekend that you're just gonna have to smile and enjoy yourself. Cause it's your birthday! Just have fun. Now I made you this shirt to wear for tonight... Calm down and put it on and go get yourself ready." She did have a few smart ass comments but we were all laughing by then. So Marilyn (#3) and I finish up the yard work and come in to see mom all dressed... She looked great! I had made a black scoop neck shirt and put a sequence rose on it (all in green). And she wore a patterned skirt that matched the shirt perfect! Just then Ed & Arlene arrive as Marilyn is making the third round... Ed joins in. We're all sitting there and my dad is feasting on cashews. Marilyn all of a sudden blurts out, "Don't eat too many cashews "BOB", you'll get diarrhea." I start cracking up and that was the start of the weekend running jokes. I mixed another round for the three of us and my mother... Not being a big drinker (well, I'm not much either but it's been a more recent thing) picks up the mix which was almost empty and says"don't you think you girls have had enough?" "Mom the mix is non-alcoholic, it doesn't matter how much of that we drink." My brother ken (#5) comes to pick us up to take us back to Mary's (#1) to finish up decorations for the next day. And we send everyone off to dinner.
Back at Mary's I think that the drinks were finally catching up because I started teasing Marilyn about her Pakistani husband. He has a habit of writing plz, every other word when you're IM'ing with him. She just started laughing and told me to shut up... But every now and again I would blurt out "PLZ" We ordered food for Ken's birthday and proceeded to make party decorations for the party the next day. I talked to my nephew, Pat, in madison and we did a phone shot... And here's where everything started to get a bit party hardy for me. Next thing I know because you know how time passes when you're drunk... Mary is handing me the phone and telling me it's Chris' cellphone, Pat's older brother. I started flipping out because I swore I was talking to Pat. I couldn't believe it and didn't drop it all evening. Along with blurting out "PLZ", I kept saying I can't believe how much Chris sounds like Pat. And they just let me go on and on and before I knew it I had knocked down Mary's glass of wine all over the floor. And then the astrology durge started. "I can't believe I made a mess in a Virgo's house... Blah Blah Blah BLah Blah.... And I'm not even helping you clean it up... I'm just standing here in shock that I made a mess in your house." And then the laughter came because we all knew that I would have made a bigger mess if I would have tried to help her clean it up. So, about 11:30 pm, Mom calls and says that they had a wonderful time at dinner even though they sat outside at the steak house. And a few other comments about family issues but that's the boring part of the story... Not everyone gets along as well as all us siblings. Anyway, we were all happy that she had a great time, and finished up the decorations. As Marilyn and I were laying down to go to bed I had to get one more in and said, "PLZ can I tell you again how much Chris sounds like Pat." "Shut up and go to bed" "Saturday" will be typed tomorrow....

OC/DC?

Maybe if I can stop obsessing about trying to update my operating system for one day, I could actually get the post done about my trip. The thing is that I have all this other work backlogged until that happens. So, hopefully soon, I'll either stop obsessing or just write the damn entry.

How was my trip

Well, I got into Chicago at the crack of dawn on a Wed. Perfect! The Onion comes out today and I can sit and have a cup of coffee and enjoy it. Well, Mike picks me up from the el and we go and have breakfast(walk in and hear the first song we ever collaborated on), class (no, I just watched), lunch, nap, run to the grocery store with Joe (which is when I finally got an Onion) and then bar hopping with Chris, Mike & Joe. The next day I hung out with Christopher Collins, we had a huge breakfast and talked about the latest theories on everything. After hanging out at his apt for awhile (cough - cough), we decided that we were going to play magic (I know there goes the veins) in the park. Well, the park thing didn't happen so we headed to Leona's where I had the best chicken I've ever tasted. It was this lettuce wrap with fresh avacado, zuc & squash veggie mix, sauted mushrooms, cucumber mix, tomato salad, and something else I don't remember. But anyway, I splashed it down with a huge raspberry margarita! Yummy! He asked if I really thought that was a smart idea since I was heading to the airport so my brother could take #3 and I back to the suburbs. I said it was fine because I was going to #1 to celebrate #5's birthday. Got to the airport, headed back right into a traffic jam. So, of course we took side streets. But while we were in line to get off the highway, we started making up phrases from the letters on people's licence plates. Let me tell you I have never heard so many VD's in one car ride. That's how the trip started... but since it's 3am, and I have to work tomorrow... I'll add more pieces in the next few days....

It's still funny!

So after posting a comment on Phil's blog a few days ago, I just read Eft's blog and ya know what... It's still funny!

One of the coolest things I've ever seen

So, flying back into Vegas after I left Chicago... We got to go through a thunder storm
And you thought that I liked watching storms from the ground? And there's a ton of stories from Chicago which I will write as soon as I catch up with everything else.
